It
is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Thompson.
He died on the 16th July 2011 at the age of 87. He will be
greatly missed by his many friends and the numerous collectors
of his work.
John
was born Salem, Lees, Oldham in 1924. Was a founder member
of Saddleworth Art Group and member of Oldham Art Soc. His
early career involved display design.
First
one man show held at Salford Art Gallery 1988. Has also exhibited
at the Royal Watercolour Society and taken part in many solo
and mixed exhibitions throughout the northwest. His work is
represented in private collections all over the world.
John's
works in a wide variety of media, experimenting with paint
combinations and effects. His imagery is rooted in the mid
1900's but his work elicits a response from people of all
ages. His subjects are many and varied but he is best known
for his Groups Series - images of the working man.
