Born in Clitheroe, Lancashire in 1947. Peter Taylor spent a period of training at Blackburn. He felt at odds with the 'anything goes' attitude which he felt was prevalent in the school of art at that time preferring the more disciplined approach of many of the earlier painters whom he admired. Because of this, he left Art College and worked as a Design Reproduction Artist for a period whilst he continued to paint. He now paints full time.

In 2006 he was selected from a number of applicants to join a group of US artists working from the Loch Vale Gallery in Colorado. Their brief was to join with English and Scottish artists painting in Scotland. The resulting selection of work was to become the gallery's 2006 Christmas exhibition. The show was such a success that the same artists now work together to produce the annual Christmas exhibition at Loch Vale Art Gallery, Colorado.

Peter Taylor has also held solo shows in the North West at The Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool, Lytham St Ann's and Samlesbury Hall, Lancashire.
