Phil
George was born in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1960 and
still lives on the North East Coast. He worked in London and
the North East in design and illustration for over twenty
years and is now painting full time.
After
leaving school Phil did labouring work for a few years but
studied art at evening classes. There he was encouraged to
study art full-time and won a place at Newcastle College of
Art & North Tyneside College. He was taught drawing and
painting by Maurice McPartlan and Jeffrey Johnson and also
studied graphic design.
Throughout
those years he had a keen interest in diverse music genres
and played regularly in local punk bands. His interest in
music continues and is often reflected in his choices of subject
and titles.
He
feels that his current work draws inspiration from English
eccentricity, music and 'being slightly at odds with the 21st
Century'.
